In order to run VRX we recommend the following minimum hardware:
- Modern multi-core CPU, e.g. Intel Core i5
- 8 Gb of RAM
- Nvidia Graphics Card, e.g. Nvidia GTX 650
Though other hardware configurations may be possible, we only offer official support for systems meeting the above specifications.
The system can be run without a dedicated GPU, but the Gazebo simulation will run much faster (should run in real-time) with access to a GPU. Without a GPU the simulation is likely to run significantly slower than real-time.
The system setup tutorials provide instructions for installing this environment directly on your host computer or by using a Docker container.
The VRX software support is provided for the following software environment:
- Ubuntu Desktop 20.04 Focal (64-bit)
- Gazebo 11.6.0+
- ROS Noetic
Previous releases of VRX (up to 1.3.0) were tested on Ubuntu 18.04 / Gazebo 9.11.0+ / ROS Melodic. Although this environment is no longer officially supported, it remains community supported. Whenever possible, we will attempt to preserve backwards compatibility with these previous system requirements.
We also recommend having a gamepad for testing when driving the WAM-V in the simulated world. In the examples we use a Logitech F310 (walmart).
