Business Model
Nepalingo is a language learning platform that allows the user to learn indigenous Nepali languages.
Nepalingo provides a fun and gamified way of learning Nepal’s indigenous languages.
Nepalingo has an app and a website that a user can use to learn languages.
Nepalingo will target Gen-Zs who have little to no knowledge about their heritage and language.
Indigenous languages are at the verge of extinction. To save our culture and heritage, everyone should have a brief knowledge about their culture. (sounds rude but we need to take advantage of people’s love and care for their culture)
Fun website, new features like speech to text
A lot of native languages are at the risk of being extinct. Since 1795, 61% of the native language across the world have already been lost and many of Nepal’s indigenous languages have also been identified as at risk. Our aim is to preserve our heritage by providing hands-on knowledge about the languages of Nepal to the new generation. We plan to start an online learning platform that will provide courses related to different indigenous languages. We will create custom dictionaries for different languages by working with linguists to be able to translate literature and articles.
Young generations will be our primary customers but directly approaching them will not be feasible. We will target young generations through their community and schools.
Make the website/app fun to use: It will increase our customer retention. Along with the good user experience we will have features like speech to text to attract users.
Make our USP stronger: It will help us to acquire more customers.
Younger generations often show less interest in learning indigenous languages, so to effectively reach our ideal customers, we will first focus on engaging the community. We plan to organize awareness programs that involve grandparents and parents, using these community events to generate interest and target younger learners through their families. Additionally, we will organize cultural events in schools to engage students directly and foster their interest in learning indigenous languages.
In-game currency for every course completion to increase user retention. The currency can be then used to purchase real life products and goodies.
○ Monetize Speech to text: We will offer users a free learning platform with limited access to the Speech-to-Text feature. Full access to this feature will be available through a minimal subscription fee.
○ Selling API/Dictionaries: Selling the dictionaries/APIs that we will be creating. We will provide free trials, but if anyone wishes to use them for their business(not non profit organizations), a minimal fee will be charged.
○ Translate books, articles: We will translate books and articles and sell them for profit. Many history books are written in Nepalbhasa. The Newar language of Nepal has the fourth oldest literature tradition among the Sino-Tibetan languages (after Chinese, Tibetan and Burmese). So, we can capitalize on translating these manuscripts.
○ Affiliate income: Monetize blog and social media posts with affiliate links. We will sell cultural artifacts around the language we’ll teach. Integrating the sales of cultural artifacts into our language teaching programs can enhance the learning experience. We will collaborate with museums, cultural institutions, and local artisans to ensure authenticity and support cultural preservations while generating additional revenue..
○ Advertising income: smart advertising for cultural shops and restaurants. We will use targeted suggestions based on user data to recommend local venues, such as notifying Maithili users about the best places for traditional Maithili cuisine. We will collaborate with businesses to offer exclusive discounts when the user finishes the course.
○ Webinars and online classes and course certificates: Monetize coaching-style webinars and online classes related to languages and provide certificates for each language course. Free courses will be provided without certification (like duolingo), but users can pay for online seminars and classes. Our app/website will be based on the Freemium model.
○ Members-only content: Elaborating on the Freemium model, we will monetize a members-only section of the website and provide premium features like free online classes, books etc. We will not flood our website/app with ads nor will we provide ad free user experience for minimal charges. Our ads will be strategic and subtle to make it less like an ad but more like suggestions.
