Chapter 2's story, a fancy loading screen and some puzzle tweaks!
This release fills out Chapter 2's story with a bunch of new cutscenes! If you've already progressed past chapter 2, you won't get to see the chapter 2 start and end cutscenes without starting a new game. But....
I've added two new cheat codes, chap01
and chap02
so you can rewind your save game file! This will reset your career mode progress to the start of these chapters, so unfortunately you'll need to progress further through career mode to play the later levels again. But it will let you see the new chapter 2 start and end cutscenes without starting a new game. You can enter these cheat codes on the Career mode's level selection map, or during the chapter selection as well.
Enjoy the fancy new loading screen when the game starts up! You can aim and rotate the pieces using the usual movement/rotation keys.
I've made some minor tweaks to the U piece behavior! Check out the 'Meet Spins' tutorial in the Tutorials section for some of the new U piece tech. The U, I, O and V pieces all have subtly different spawning position which are driving me slightly crazy -- but I THINK i'll get used to them! I hope.

New practice menu, no more free roam mode, and a fresh coat of paint!
The practice menu has been redesigned so you can practice any level in career mode! Click the top button to select your level and drag the slider to pick your speed. The old training and rank levels are still available too -- just page over to the left and you'll see them!
Free roam has been removed from the main menu -- it's that tiny question mark button you probably never clicked! But if you clicked it, it is not there anymore.
There are some new scene transitions where the screen gets eaten by blocks with a little 'taka-taka-taka' sound. It's much cooler than fading in and out! I think it's super fun.
During puzzles, keep an eye out for the new spin move and squish move notifications that pop up! And if you're skilled or lucky enough, you might see an all clear notification too. They don't get you any points but gosh they sure are cool!
There are fancier popup messages during puzzles -- those little popups which say things like 'Ready?' and 'You win!' are a lot more colorful and decorated. Just little things!

What changed since 0.4501?
More story, levels, and a chapter select screen!
Chapter 1, "Lemony Thickets" now includes its own story and its own crazy levels. Good luck with them, they shouldn't be too hard but they may surprise you in some silly ways!
- Levels with a narrower playfield
- Levels with tetrominos, including S and Z pieces
- Levels with a very limited piece selection
The new Chapter Select screen lets you replay Chapter 1 to finish the story and beat every levels. Try for 100%!
What changed since Milestone v0.42?
- More chapters in career mode: "Lemony Thickets" and "Merrymellow Marsh" are complete!
- More levels: Tetrominos, and levels with narrower playfields!
- Chapter select: Replay old chapters in Career mode. Finish the story and try for 100%!

Oops! That last release had a few bugs which broke cutscenes and parts of free roam mode.
- #1418 After launching FreeRoam mode for the first time, you'd be dropped back to the main menu.
- #1419 Certain cutscenes would crash the game
- #1420 In FreeRoam mode, you couldn't move after viewing certain cutscenes
I've squashed those bugs so this new version should run smoother!

New puzzle decorations, and a new tutorial!
The new 'Lemony Thickets' area now has its own puzzle decorations! Customers sit outside and a yellow gooey landscape replaces the usual brown restaurant counters.
Check out the new tutorial, 'Meet Spins'! It walks you through some spin moves, as well as a flipping mechanic you may not know about. There may be a little easter egg if you abuse flips too often during the tutorial, too!

This release adds a new area, Lemony Thickets!
The new area is accessible before distance 10 in career mode. It does not include any cutscenes or levels yet, just the area cosmetics. But enjoy the nice eye candy!
Piece flips are now more flexible for P and Q pieces, allowing for some snazzy moves. ...Wait, didn't you know you can press both rotate keys to flip a piece? I should make more tutorials...

This release matches cutscenes with levels in career mode! You'll notice your choices are often more constrained, as you're occasionally forced to play levels with a specific character. But the story should make more sense too. This still only applies to the MerryMellow marsh levels for now (distance 40-59)
U pieces can now flip in narrow columns. Yay!
I made a minor balance adjustment to the Just Cream level -- I found that having a few extra O pieces opened up some cool strategies.

The entire Merrymellow Marsh storyline is in Career mode! I've made some other minor gameplay improvements to Career mode as well.
If you start a new game of Career Mode and get to level 40, you'll see a prologue scene with Fat Sensei and the player talking about their plans for Merrymellow marsh. (You'll also be immediately forced to play the intro level where you learn about how annoying Skins's special rotation rules are.)
As you continue playing levels between 40-59, you'll see some familiar cutscenes with Richie, Skins, Shirts, Bones and Rhonk. Some of these are a little mismatched, there is no logic connecting the people you're playing with to the cutscenes that appear. I'll fix that next week!
Viewing all the cutscenes is a monumental task and currently involves playing about 60-70 levels in the 40-59 step range. But if you do, you'll view the epilogue scene with Fat Sensei and the player talking about what they accomplished in Merrymellow Marsh.
Lastly, there used to be a gameplay snag where after earning 5 or 10 steps in Career mode, you might waste them all if you bump into a boss level. Those steps are now banked, so your progress isn't lost -- you'll advance further after you clear the level which stopped you.
Milestone 0.42
What changed this week?
Hopefully nothing! A lot of cutscene logic was shifted around under the hood, but everything should work exactly as it did before.
What changed in Milestone v0.42?
- Massive performance improvements -- Most notably, the overworld goop looks different, and creatures are loaded differently during puzzles! The game should be less jittery and use fewer resources, especially on mobile devices.
- New career mode -- Career mode has replaced Story mode as the main mode of the game! Play eight random levels to progress as far as you can before the workday is over. The better you play, the further you go! And the further you go, the harder the levels get. (Story mode is still accessible via the '?' button on the main screen.)
- New cake tutorial -- A tricky new tutorial 'Make Cakes' teaches you all eight cake box recipes.

This release adds a few career mode interludes!
Career mode now plays a little cutscene after the third and sixth levels. I'd eventually like to have a whole bunch of these, but for now it's just two!
There are also many minor bugfixes and improvements. Decoupling the "cutscenes play before levels" logic from the story mode took a lot of untangling, so please let me know if I broke something!
