Multilingual vocabularies
There are two possible models to implement multilngual controlled vocabulary:
- Model based on a one central vocabulary and many target vocabularies
- Federated model
This model contains in the same vocabulary the terms from source vocabulary and the equivalence to the terms in target vocabularies. All vocabularies (source and target vocabulary vocabulary) are managed by the same instance of TemaTres. This option is useful if the target vocabulary does not exist or the terminology services are not available or there are incomplete terminological correspondences.
Here an example of this model: https://vocabularyserver.com/turismo/ The main vocabulary is spanish, and the other languages are target vocabularies.
Advantages of this model:
- Allows mapping and establishment of nominal reference vocabularies where vocabularies do not exist or are unavailable.
- Mapped terms can be retrieved on search and alphabetical browsing.
- It provides full control over the management of the terms from the reference vocabularies.
- The mapping relations are normalised, allowing complete, partial or non-equivalence relations.
- Nominal mappings are set on the resulting complex inferences or develop other advanced processes
- When were they recorded many vocabularies of reference (10 languages, for example) search operations generate results irrelevant and inaccurate, since it includes the results of all reference vocabularies.
- If changes in the actual reference vocabulary, there are no automatic mechanisms alert and updated text
- Login as administrator TemaTres.
- Main Menu -> Administration -> vocabulary configuration -> add reference vocabulary.
- Fill in the form the descriptive metadata for target vocabulary (may be changed later.)
- Find the term in our source vocabulary from which you want to create an terminological relation
- Go to Options menu (in the term) -> Relations between vocabularies -> target vocabulary.
- Fill the corresponding term to the target vocabulary
- Select the target vocabulary
- Set the type of terminological (total equivalence, partial equivalence, nonequivalence)
This model allows to establish independent relationships between different vocabularies or languages, whether equivalence relations between languages or other possible relationships between terms and concepts. Each of the vocabularies of destination (target vocabulary) should be able to offer web services according to the TemaTres pattern terminology services. Through these services, the source vocabulary can search terms in the target vocabularies and establish relationships between terms. This option can be useful for medium and large projects managed by multilingual terminologist team.
An example of the federated model: https://vocabularyserver.com/eurovoc/ There are N vocabularies who are mapped by terminological web services.
Advantages of this model:
- A wide range of terminology mappings can be set, with a unique URI for each mapping terminology. Relationships can be described in terms consistent with the linked data model.
- An unlimited number of reference vocabularies can be added without impacting on the functionality and performance of each.
- It is a federated model therefore has an autonomous user schema for each vocabulary. It has automated mechanisms for federated updating of terms, which means that if a term is changed or removed in a reference vocabulary, the changes are notified to the original vocabulary.
- Mapping relations are not standardised, therefore it is therefore possible to establish relationships between all vocabularies, such as translation, extension, equivalence.
- It is only possible to use this model where vocabularies are provided as a web service.
- By allowing different types of relationships, there is a greater reliance on the judgement of those creat
- Login as administrator TemaTres.
- Main Menu -> Administration -> vocabulary configuration -> add reference vocabulary remote (via web services).
- Record the following information:
- Key reference: the legend will appear on screen next to each term
- Tag Reference: is a label describing the type of relationship terminology (eg EQ, EQP)
- Language: language code of the vocabulary of reference (target vocabulary)
- URL of web service terminology: URL from which the reference vocabulary TemaTres offers web services terminology. The service must be enabled on the target vocabulary (target vocabulary). EJ: https://www.r020.com.ar/tematres/demo/services.php
How to create a terminological equivalence
- Find the word in the vocabulary of origin (source vocabulary), bone … our vocabulary, from which you want to create an equivalence relation terminology
- Go to Options menu (the term) -> Relations between vocabularies -> remote target vocabulary (web services).
- Select the reference vocabulary (vocabulary target) with which to establish a terminological relationship
- Search it in the target vocabulary. If the vocabulary use code, you can search by code, If the target vocabulary have mapping relations with your vocabulary (soruce vocabualry), you can use reverse mapping.
- Select the desired term
