There are CMake packages now which refuse to build "in-source", and out-of-source is now the default in Fedora and RHEL.
We missed the boat for RHEL 9 and I'm not sure how safe it would be to change it now, but we should add a backstop for all future platforms to use their default behavior.
TBD: Changes may be necessary to the spec file templates in the
rpm
generator.
