- use Godot Jolt physics engine (Recognize "Godot Jolt" (Jolt Physics) as an officially endorsed add-on for 3D physics godotengine/godot-proposals#7308). It was a drop-in replacement that had a massive performance boost
- remove most lights and use emissive materials with standard environment glow stuff
- turn shadow settings down. had a noticeable performance boost despite not really using shadows much
