Comparing bammerge ... | bamstreamingmarkduplicates | bamseqchksum and bammerge ... | mbuffer -m 50G -q | bamstreamingmarkduplicates | mbuffer -m 50G -q | bamseqchksum seems to show buffering between processes can increase CPU utilisation. Are we missing similar optimisations?
