The Media Resource In-band Tracks CG developed the Sourcing In-band Media Resource Tracks from Media Containers into HTML spec, informatively referenced by HTML5.

Specification is useful to media companies, but has no official standing and probably needs to be completed.

Per charter, the recently chartered Media WG may choose to adopt the DataCue proposal after some period of incubation. As part of that, the group may also choose to update (and possibly split by media format) the Sourcing In-band Media Resource Tracks from Media Containers into HTML document.

The Media & Entertainment IG tracks the topic in w3c/media-and-entertainment#41. There has been no progress towards identifying a maintainer and maintenance story for the spec though.

(Side note that the Media WG develops a number of media-format-specific specs along the same Note model for MSE, EME, and WebCodecs)
