For floppies stored in improper conditions it often happens that even after cleaning they remain unreadable without extra attention (e.g. the Eject button must be used as a "clutch," releasing the pressure of heads on the disk, thus allowing it to spin smoother). Currently, it's a blind process - not until the dumping is finished it is known if the extra attention actually had any effect (e.g. if too much pressure had been released so that the heads had detached from the disk, all tracks thus silently being read as empty).

Especially during dumping is it thus desired to add posibility of monitored data mining, e.g. flawless reading of whole tracks in case of CAPS-based devices.
