Suggestion from @sentience:
ST3 has added support for file icons in addition to directory disclosure buttons (which Flatland uses to display folder icons). Flatland’s ST3 version should be updated to use the new file icons for to display the folders. Looking forward to Flatland-style text, markup, and source file type icons, too!

I like Predawn only because of it's icons, but I like Flatland's color scheme more. Is there an icon update in the future for Flatland?

+1 for this.

Specifically we would like to see the loading folder icon be used in ST3, when a network folder is loading its files and takes a little longer to open.

Is this something we can add, or is coming?

No immediate plans, but if someone wants to tackle adding the ST3 style icons using the existing images, we'd be happy to merge the pull request.

I have created a pull request with the loader - #119

Could this be added on an opt-in basis?

While pretty, I personally find icons next to file names distracting and conter-productive.

You could always pull down from the version before. https://github.com/thinkpixellab/flatland/tree/c43a90de56de176c4113fccd409ebf9daa9ba771

Or possibly fork the version before then use your own fork.

Or, make it enabled/disabled based on user preference by adding a settings property.

"settings": ["flatland_st3_style_icons"],

On side bar when you have a nested dirs with files and subdirs with current setup its very diff to track what files belong to what dir because they span differently, attaching image
