E.g. when a user is not operator of a channel, but tries to change the topic - an error is given in the status window such as:

yournick,#channel,You're not channel operator

But, this is not obvious to the user as he/she is not in the status window, but rather in the channel they are trying to change the topic for. Hence they get no feedback whatsoever, and the the topic is of course not set. We can do two things:

  1. We can give a red +1 in the status window, indicating that the username has been mentioned in this 'channel'.
  2. Do as irssi and other clients, actually printing the error in the actual channel, without broadcasting it to others, of course.

I suggest we do both.

When something is written to the status tab, it should have a unread count like other channels. And when an error is printed it should also be printed in the channel it affects. At least this is the way I, as a user, would expect it to be and how I'd like it to be.
