I'm Matthias; a Belgian software developer.
My open source work currently has a strong focus on document signing, especially for PDF documents. Among a number of other projects, I am the main author and maintainer of pyHanko.
The market for document signing is growing, and there are currently various areas where broadly available tooling is lacking:
- Comprehensive FOSS digital signing solutions are few and far between, and not all software ecosystems have the tools to build such solutions.
- Truly robust signature validation is hard, and few people afford it the attention it deserves.
- Signing technologies are also evolving, which comes with its own set of interesting interoperability challenges.
These are the goals I try to contribute to in my projects. That's no small task; it involves
- the usual direct time investment to develop and maintain open-source software (as is the case for all FOSS maintainers);
- staying on top of current developments in the industry through active participation in relevant standardisation efforts (this is both time-consuming and requires some degree of funding);
- having access to testing equipment (subscriptions to remote signing services, hardware devices, computing time, etc.).
These are the main avenues for which I would value additional contributions, since there's a limit to what I can sustainably do at my own expense. Your help is much appreciated!
