PnP Template file versioning practice

Hello,

We would like to maintain some versioning practice for our PnP Site templates, but we would like to maintain the version number in the template itself, not in the name of the file for example, is there any good practice to achieve that? I can see in the Version attribute of pnp:ProvisioningTemplate but I am not sure what is this for, Is it the version of the base template or the version of the template I am creating, maybe this can be used, but I am not sure how to set the value or I can use a custom templateproperty?

It will be great if I there is an easy way to also control the ID property of the templates?

We export templates with PnP PowerShell and files are maintained in a repo.
