I recently recommended Color Oracle to a developer but they repsonsed saying that the notification tray icon only nature of the app wasn't suitable for their environment/workflow.

Could it be possible for an alternative mechanism for using the software such as launching with commandline flags to set the state?

N.b. I'm currently using the version from the AUR which includes a script to start the app with.

Apologies for the necro, but this is a feature I would really love to see

Being able to bind a filter (ie through command line args, maybe something like color-oracle --deut) using sxhkd or some other software would be great
