sensor not showing up at all

I made sure that the sensor is of the correct type and wired properly, scrips installed I did apt-update and did every debuting step mentioned on here yet the sensor is not showing up. website only says "use environment (no sensor)" for Power saving measures option and the logs show nothing.
when I do sudo i2cdetect -y 1 that shows the sensor is connected but nothing else works
