If you want to try to convert some tools to python some day,
you can find here some interesting example code
https://github.com/mgorny/proxy-maint-bugs
It is very clean and can evaluate special cases in the packages better then a grep
This was what I advertised on IRC recently.
It was 100 times faster than my bash solution.

Yes, going with python some day would be the preferred solution.
