There is some information about this here: https://matomo.org/faq/log-analytics-tool/faq_16305/
Also some of it is obvious.

The idea is that if your not using the javascript tracking method and using solely matomo-log-analytics then there are probably some plugins that can be disabled without affecting your features/information available in the dashboard.

I will start the list here but people could help contribute what they know for certain.

Plugins that can be disabled while using solely log-analytics:

  • CustomDimensions
  • CustomJsTracker
  • Ecommerce
  • IntranetMeasurable - https://matomo.org/faq/how-to/faq_19/ uses cookies, i think also safe to disable
  • Overlay - I am pretty sure this will depend on javascript.
  • Resolution
  • Widgetize - I am pretty sure this will depend on javascript.

Plugins that might not do anything while using solely log-analytics (not sure):

  • Contents - measure the performance (views, clicks, CTR) of any piece of content on your pages (Banner ad, image, any item). this may work because Actions appears to work, im not sure.
  • DevicePlugins - not sure about this one, it apparently detects what plugins are supported by a visitor browser, but im not sure what this feature adds to the displayed information of the dashboard.
  • Heartbeat - Ping tracker requests.... not really sure what this does

I may have also overlooked other plugins that simply don't provide any functionality when using solely matomo-log-analytics, so if anyone knows of any other plugins that can be added to this list, please let me know.

Thanks for creating this issue. We are actually not running any tests on which plugins might be required or not. So disabling plugins might cause problems. In that case feel free to create issues in the main repo.

Regarding your list:

  • IntranetMeasurable can only be disabled if you don't want to create a site of type Intranet measurable in Matomo.
  • Widgetize shouldn't be disabled. It doesn't have anything to do with the tracking method. It allows embedding Matomo widgets externally.
  • Goals can be used. They can't be triggered manually via JS for sure. But they can be triggered through visiting certain urls and other triggers.

Hey, Thank you for the response, appreciate it.

With IntranetMeasurable it was my understanding that it works through cookies, Zero cookies are allowed on the site I am tracking so I am assuming this one would be safe for me to disable.

The website that I am tracking does not use any javascript at all, meaning I could not put any widgets into it that depend on javascript. so therefore I would be safe to disable widgetize right?

Also thanks for confirming what I suspected on goals, going to remove that from the list now.

Also so far I have had zero issues disabling the plugins that I disabled, so far everything seems to be working perfectly.
