I have Slack and Discord desktop "apps" (aka Electron) installed, both from flatpaks. They each put an icon in the notification area, adding a dot when there are new messages. Sometimes they switch to the same notification icon (more often the Discord icon, but sometimes the Slack icon). I had seen this happen once or twice before, it happened a bunch about a year ago, and with Fedora 41 it is happening occasionally. It seems specific to Discord and Slack; I don't think I've seen any other notification area icons change or get duplicated.
