Foundational work that is in old the literature (earlier than 1990s do not always have DOIs, if they are indexed on PubMed, NCBI assigns them a unique PMID because this is required for NIH grant application work.
@bherr2, I am adding this feature request to our upcoming meeting agenda for Friday w/ @abhayrajde . It would allow him to complete ASCT+B Validation Test 5, and close this issue and #372#373.
