This theme offers a built-in site engine but it relies on a JSON index (built by the theme) which could get very huge and expensive in bandwidth usage.

So I think it's fair to offer a server-sided search indexing service option, too.
One of the most popular service for it is Algolia.

As of filing this issue, I haven't personally used it yet.
It needs some testing (and personal experience) to get this done.
