Are you going to try to improve https://github.com/zotero/translators/blob/master/Wikipedia%20Citation%20Templates.js as well? Its main deficiency is the lack of support for the non-English version of the cite templates.

I've tried some improvements but it's quite hard (for me) to contribute there zotero/translators#835 . Either way I suggest to mention in the README what your intentions are.

The translator you point to does the reverse translation: starting from a citation stored in Zotero, produce the citation template for Wikipedia. This repository is about parsing existing citation templates to a structured format.

But I agree with you: the Zotero translator should support other languages! On fr.wiki at least, you can actually use the english templates, and a bot will translate them to the french version (I think).

Ok, but perhaps the mapping can be done in a central place for both systems, à la https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Citoid/Maps_TemplateData

Yes, the same on the Italian and Russian Wikipedia and others.

@nemobis: you know what? I think that's a pretty good idea. Even if the template processing code is not the same across wikipedias, we should be able to do a decent job with template argument mappings. That would be useful because:

  • translating template parameters seems easier than wrapping lua code
  • translations can be reused in Zotero.

So, let's go for this! Maybe the source of the bot that does the translation of the templates can be used to get the mappings?

What do you think, @CristianCantoro?
