As a very happy user of rmfakecloud, I regard it as an essential companion to the ReMarkable tablet. In fact, with the launch of the new Paper Pro, I will not be purchasing it unless rmfakecloud works!

But it's no easy feat keeping up with changes that ReMarkable makes and compatibility has been an issue for a while now.

I am writing this issue to start discussion of how we may help the dev(s) to keep rmfakecloud relevant and compatible.

I would be very happy to provide a donation to continued development. @ddvk would this help with development?

Also, if any other users agree, please thumbs up this issue to indicate that you'd be wiling to contribute too (if there is sufficient interest, we can work out the best platform to provide contributions). I think to be viable, the minimum contribution should be $100. Perhaps this would need to be a regular amount?

Most of current maintenance is being done by @nemunaire right now, not @ddvk.

Hi @zeigerpuppy!

Thanks for your kind message and I'm glad to hear you like the project.

From what I saw of the Paper Pro, it seems this is a new branch of the operating system, like between the rm1 and rm2. So rmfakecloud should work the same way on Paper Pro. At least on common features: sync, transcription, email, ... Regarding the setup through Toltec, this is more a thing for @Eeems?
However, I have no plan to buy a Paper Pro right now. I'll not be able to test it myself.

Could you elaborate on the compatibility issues? and time to keep up with new releases from reMarkable?
I think it is important that everyone share theirs expectations.

For each new reMarkable release, I try to make things work in rmfakecloud within a week. Perhaps that's not what you're seeing?
Regarding the non-working (non-essential) features (PDF export in web interface, screenshare, ...), and increasing number of issues, I'm short in time... today I use a version of rmfakecloud with many patches I made last year, which I didn't have time to stabilize (eg. to store data in S3 instead of the local drive, new integrations #240, #241 and others).

Anyway, I'm personally interested in feedback from the community to know what ambition to give to this project.

Hi!
I bought the remarkable paper pro expecting that this will be a yes in the near future! In the meantime I have to pay Connect but my intention with the device is giving it full integration with my nextcloud ecosystem and do not relay in the company.
Happy to contribute with donations and also user testing on my new device once it ships!

I think the project is still in a good shape, thanks @nemunaire. Most of the issues that I see are just support requests.
The rmpro should be using the same sync protocol and 'just work'.

As for donations etc, it is more a matter of available time. I do plan on implementing the v6 notes format at least.

I have received my reMarkable Paper Pro today, it runs software version 3.14.3.0, and I was able to successfully pair and sync it with the rmfakecloud (using current main, 4af294b).

With respect to the future of the project, I have been an early adopter and I agree the project is still kicking and useful (as evidenced by the above), though I think some of the perception might stem just from the fact that the issue tracker needs a bit of cleanup. I would be happy to volunteer a bit of time to do that, if @ddvk is able to share the rights. Alternatively @Eeems has also been doing great work in marking issues as duplicates and helping with the support.

Hi @tbabej, thanks for the report of usability with the new Paper Pro!
Great to hear that sync functionality is working.

I agree that a bit of a cleanup and focus on the key issues would be great.
I think the main one currently is the lack of support for the new lines notes format... (as @ddvk noted above).

great to know, @tbabej! How did you install rmfakecloud on the Paper Pro? I'm assume toltec is not available yet.
Thanks.
Best,
Stéfano.-

There is no need to "install" rmfakecloud with a package manager like toltec, all I needed to do is to override /etc/hosts with the server IP and added a custom CA certificate (used to generate the HTTPS certs for the server).

Looks like this is covered in the docs under the Manual solution, and while it looks more complicated, once it's setup it's easy to add more devices, plus you don't have an extra proxy process running on the device 🙂

Working well with new paper pro !
Any of you has also the same issue when you restart the table everything is lost (no more connection to the account from the tablet, /etc/hosts wiped etc..) ?
Another thing, should we had mount -o remount,rw / to installer-rmpro.sh as if not I am unable to have it pass the command correctly?
