Search Everywhere (additional sources)

Intellij has this idea of "search everywhere" and that's close to the spirit of this plugin, since you just need a single mapping, type a few characters, and let the search be smart enough to quickly know what you want. Currently, we only deal with files, so we'd need to support other sources. Of course we'd just make an option for this behavior, and the current behavior would stay the default.

I'm putting this idea out there in the hopes that others will build upon the idea and help refine it.

Some initial questions I could use some input on:

• What sources would be useful/not useful? Commands? Color schemes?
• When introducing multiple types of search results, how can we show the user what the type of result is so they can differentiate between files, commands, etc.? (We're potentially working with very limited width too)
• For each different source of information, we'd probably need to consider:
  • Do we want to keep track of recency, frecency, etc. and factor them into result rankings, or just base the ranking off of search match?
  • How should the items be displayed and formatted in the results?
