[Chromium] Release Coc Coc for Linux (Ubuntu, Deepin, Debian, Kylin, Cent, Elementary.....) #1
Comments
No one cares about your opinion. Also, if you think Coc Coc is shit, what are you doing on its git? Get the fuck out. For others: we really shouldn't need to use Wine to run browsers. On principle. |
As somebody who gamed most in the nineties, I am flattered to be called young. |
(I am not the person that was aimed at, but I think I might be able to help anyway) I recommend using the Devel version instead by default. I've used it for three years now (while updating immediately once an update is available), and it has yet to break something. The tutorial is here (choose the winehq-devel from the Install Wine section): https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu (includes specifics for Mint) |
It work, thank you so much you was save my life :)))) comment in there |
No problem, glad to have helped. ^__^ |
Ads. YUCK. |

Just a note - I do not have CocCoc - I only added my two cents in the discussion by recommending a non-ancient version of Wine inside Mint. Personally, I do not recommend using a browser as a Windows executable inside Linux. Having a Linux version instead seems like a much better idea (but of course you are free do run any Windows software inside Linux, just be aware that it may be far from perfect). But hey, it is getting there. Over ten years ago, Wine had problems running Windows' Notepad. Nowadays, it can run a lot of older games perfectly (and sometimes even with better performance, if Vulcan wrapping is used to wrap Direct3D calls!) and Wine's spinoff Proton can run quite a decent amount of MODERN games (as Steam Deck is a Linux distribution, Steam wants pretty much all Windows-exclusive games to be playable on it, giving us a possibility of having good gaming compatibility on Linux - I do not have Steam, but I love Proton :3 ). WineHQ has a BugZilla where you can file a ticket. You should use the commandline to launch your browser in Wine in a debugging mode (Wine's debugging mode) with a log file. That log file can be attached to the ticket and they should be able to fix CocCoc under Wine with that. If you check their devel changelog, they are fixing A LOT OF THINGS on a weekly basis. |
I only use it because it can download videos from almost every website :) So im just trying and testing if I can get it working |
Why don't you simply use JDownloader with a different browser? The only thing that it can't download yet is Twitch videos and torrents. Youtube and others are supported. For Twitch, I am using TwitchDownloader: https://github.com/lay295/TwitchDownloader ( optionally with a GUI from https://github.com/mohad12211/twitch-downloader-gui ). For torrents, qBittorrent is decent. For just downloading them, Transmission is enough. Also, the Brave browser has a torrent downloading support. JDownloader also has an extension when you can put stuff into it straight from a browser by using its extension, but I am not using that. |
Can jdownloader download directly from sites like voe.sx? |
Looks like it does, or at least it did work at least once this year. I've opened google.com and put "voe.sx" "JDownloader" there. The result was this: https://board.jdownloader.org/showthread.php?t=95308 Try googling first before asking questions - it took me less than five seconds to google what you have asked for. Other search engines would've probably worked too. One note, though - voe.sx constantly updates itself so that downloaders wouldn't be able to download from it, as evident from this thread: https://board.jdownloader.org/showthread.php?p=535217 ( So expect for support for it to be broken a lot in EVERY downloader, no matter if JDownlodar or an browser in-built one ) |
I did but their forum is not really helpful. I was there a few times before because I had different questions and it didn’t help at all. Coc coc is good because it can download from almost every website - I never had any problems with voe or something not working. Not sure how but they grab the m3u8 or whatever when you start to play the video. You don’t have to search in dev tools. Everything is automated. The download feature was the only reason why I installed coc coc. But I switched to Linux now - I don’t have a problem with running it trough wine but as you can see it doesn’t work🥲 |
You don't have to use dev tools to download anything through JDownloader. Just give it a link - it doesn't have to be link directly to the file, but only a page that mentiones it. It will crawl through the link, load a plugin relevant to the website that tells it how to get a direct file link from it, and then you will see the file and can select to download it. All is automated. The same goes for example for youtube. You can set up a LOT of settings for youtube's plugin for JDownloader, like the container you prefer, etc. Then you put in either the watch page URL, or a playlist URL. And it will spit out files that you can then choose to download. It is very straightforward and quick once you do it at least once - it becomes intuitive after first use. |
Hmm, I checked out voe.sx and it seems like I need to have an account to do anything there. Accounts for plugins can be set in the settings of JDownloader. I was going to record a video of downloading something from voe.sx and then putting it on my youtube.com or rumble.com ...which is a bit of an irony due to what service voe.sx provides. I do not understand what voe.sx does that youtube and rumble do not. 10 dollars a week to upload in 720p and watch in 1080p? I'm doing 2K60FPS and 4K60FPS videos on both youtube and rumble... FOR FREE. 🤔 (don't forget to set the quality to 2K and enable English subtitles, those were manually made) In any case, we are getting a bit offtopic. My email is [email protected] - if you would like to continue our discussion, let's do so there. |
Thank you! I had to try a few times but jdownloader found the video and downloaded it! Thanks for showing me this. And btw I dont use voe to upload I use it to watch ill..- i mean movies and series. |
I'm currently using https://extranet.torrentbay.st/ for that, as I can stay relatively anonymous and keep a decently low profile. But I am glad that I have helped you. Remember - googling stuff properly is half the battle. The other half is extreme violence! |
Why did you developers removed linux version and force people to use rest of proprietary operating systems? Coc coc is a simple chrome fork. There're many other forks available out there that far more better eg: vivaldi
I couldn't find anywhere else or forum to reach developers. Is it possible for coc coc team to share ETA for linux version?. that's not a hard task. furthermore, you're able to release the application to snap store, flathub etc.
