RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Tumor heterogeneity (two projects), Guan’s lab at the University of Michigan

  • Explained a possible driving force (copy number alteration event) that causes the formation of multi-clone tumors with a Pan-Cancer dataset. The manuscript will be submitted as soon as possible after the final revision
  • Developed a tool called FastClone for reconstructing tumor phylogeny. FastClone achieves approximately 100-fold acceleration in computation for both simulated data and 15 patient data compared to other tools. The paper is published in Nature Communications

2019 – 2021

Chemical properties transformation, Guan’s lab at the University of Michigan

  • Built a framework of graph conditional variational autoencoder that could transform chemical properties by generating an analog based on graphs and properties of known compounds. The crucial idea of my framework was using three decoders to generate chemical bonds, atoms, and chemical properties, respectively

2020 – 2021

Drug response prediction, Dr. Wenjun Ju’s lab at the University of Michigan (cooperation)

  • Used SHAP to determine biomarkers that are associated with renal response to Atrasentan drug, and selected a machine learning model with the highest AUC score

2020

Biological pathway associated with aging, Dr. Lisa Sharkey‘s lab at the University of Michigan (cooperation)

  • Used WGCNA and DAVID to find out biological pathways in mice that are associated with anti-aging treatments

2018

PUBLICATIONS

First Author of a Nat. Commun. paper

  • Xiao, Y. et al. FastClone is a probabilistic tool for deconvoluting tumor heterogeneity in bulk-sequencing samples. Nat. Commun. 11, 4469 (2020)
