Describe the bug:
When wanting to cut a track using the cutting tool at the track cursor position the cutting tools mouse cursor dotted line diappears and is also not able to cut the desired track.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Select the cutting too
  2. put the cutting tool mouse cursor over the current track cursor position

Expected behavior:
The cutting tools mouse cursor should remain visible when over the track cursor, and should be able to perform a track cutting operation on a mouse press.

System Details:

  • OpenShot Version [e.g. 2.4.3]: {{ log_context.openshot_qt_version }}
    Any

  • Operating System / Distro: [e.g. Windows 10, Linux Mint 17.1]
    Any

Hello @AaronNGray

  1. What operating system/version are you running (Windows 10 Home? Ubuntu 22.04 lts? etc?)
  2. Which version of OpenShot are you running (help | about openshot)?

I am running Windows 11 Pro and OpenShot v3.2.1 and I am not having any issues with the cutting tool (scissors icon).

@Colorjet3 I have had this issue for years on Windows 11 Pro and Ubuntu, with OpenShot v3.2.1, on multiple machines. As soon as the cutting tool is over the current video position on a track its dotten line disappears and it will not perform a cutting operation.

Hello @AaronNGray Upon looking closer at the image you provided, I failed to see that you are trying to use the cutting tool at the exact location of where the playhead is positioned. I am now able to replicate this issue in my Windows 10 & 11, and also in Ubuntu 24.04.

However, the workaround for this is to leverage the shortcut keys.

I am going to submit this in the issue list for the lead developer to review and possibly fix. He will be the one to decide if this is by design, a bug, or a needed enhancement.

@Colorjet3 I could only find a Shortcuts on the website. It might be an idea to add one as a popup from the help menu.. And maybe to the tool tips ?

You can find the shortcut keys, in OpenShot, by going to Edit | Preferences | Keyboard. You can also customize them here.

I have suggested a popup/floating window with the keyboard/shortcut keys. Again, I have no control over what the lead developer will decide to do.

I like the tool tips as well.
