A bunch of games on the Amiga support using a standardized adapter connected to the parallel port to add two additional joystick ports for four player local multiplayer games (https://www.vesalia.de/e_4playeradapter.htm). Basically a sort of multitap for the Amiga.
Not sure how difficult it would be to add support for these additional joysticks. I found a pdf that might be helpful, which explains exactly how the two joystick's plugs are connected to the individual pins in the parallel port with these adapters. https://ftp.fau.de/aminet/docs/misc/FourPlayerGames_EN.pdf
Info and diagram is at the bottom after the list of supported games.
