This should contain several methods, organized into a single function for a more compact api.

Some possibilities:

Total Signal
Vector Length
Normalize to a specific sample (max, min, median, etc)
Mean Centering
Variance Scaling
Autoscaling (mean centering + variance scaling)
Pareto Scaling
