They can already, it's one of the build options and you can update the settings of the device as well to set a unique name |

It would be great, if the SSID of the Accesspoint do have different Names. It helps when configuring various Controllers at the same Time. "xxxx" stands for the last 2 Hex-Number of the ESP's MAC-Address. I already use this for all my own Projects.
