Hi,

there is now the possibility to easily update Aerial, that's nice. But why is there no way to update the companion app as well (beside checking this project and download and update manually)?

Regards
Christian

Hey @heutger

Yeah, that's something I've been meaning to fix and wanted to fix for the Monterey release, but I'm probably going to be late there.

I do have a mechanism to prompt people to update their companion in the same way you are prompted that there is a new Aerial version, though I rarely use it (I think I used it once to require 1.1, which is massively outdated).

But I wanted to move Companion to Sparkle for a seamless auto update experience there. This is going to be important in the future as some edge features (Spotify/Apple Music detection) will partly rely on having the latest Companion. And with Monterey because some stuff was fixed by Apple, there are some new features coming (sharing the cache between the "screen saver" version, and the "launched by companion" version if you use that).

So yep, this needs fixing, my time table to fix all this was unpredictably shaken by some unfortunate job stuff so, hopefully, I'll get some free time to fix that early november.
